Hello, I am follwoing my paternal line which goes back to Zhitomir.

Abraham Rit (later written as Reid) came to New York in 1912 His birthday is recorded as May 29, 1892
He was the son of Yankel Rit and Jennie _____ (whose name may have been Gitel). Jennie died and Yankel married a woman named (also) Gitel Kligerman/Clickerman, who was a widow with kids. They had a daughter Belle (Bejla) who came to New York in after both her parents died. Her brother Abraham submitted information to bring her over in 1922, when she was 11.

Yankel also had a daughter named Rochele Chana, but we are unsure of which wife was her mother. According to family tradition, Rochel Chana was a pharmacist. I have a HIAS refugee relative registration form searching for her after WWII that says she was married a second time and had a son of 27 years old, but it does not provide her married name. Her birthday is listed as Jan 1, 1900 and she lived at Audvich Chinever St in Zhitomir. Family lore says she was at one point the chief pharacist (?) At the bottom there is a separate addess listed as last known: Kiev, Ukraine, Lassach Af25 Apt 108

On the search form there is also a request to find another sister named Smilik Zomonsky lat known to be at "Bergchiv St, Zhitomirer, Russia, maybe they are in Moscow now for we heard from them last from there."

Yankel supposedly had a number of children with his first wife. I think there may have been a sister Pesya born in 1897 and maybe a sister known as Gertrude.

I think Abraham’s father may have been named Chaim, and he may have been a soldier. I think he maybe had a sister named Kajla (b 1945) who married a man named David Fridman in 1861, but the connection is speculation based on records that Abraham had a cousin Nathan Friedman whose parents are listed as Abraham David Friedman and Kalea Mimmie Ried (familysearch.org transcription). I think Abraham might also have had a sister named Bella who married a man named Aron Hersh Weintraub (two known daughters Anna and Rose who came to the states)/

I am actively using familysearch, ancestry, Jewishgen, and MyHeritage
If any of this sounds familiar or any suggestions for further research backwards

srhewitt1, Hello!
You are on the right way.
There is topic about Zhytomyr at this forum.
There you can find a lot of documents jews of Zhytomyr.
Including alphabets of metrical books.
viewtopic.php?p=165081#p165081

I aded pictures to message from some alfabets.
There is record of birth son Abraham to father Yankel Rid (Янкель Рид) in 1891 in document.
Metrical book of birth from this year is not preserved.
But also there you can find birth records of another children of Yankel, before 1891 and after.

Another record in alfabets is merriage of Yankel-Ber Chaimovich Rid in 1894.
With information from alfabets you can find records in metrical books.

All this you can see in topic about Zhytomyr, but you need someone to read it in Russian.
You can also check some records at paid genealogical site: jewua.info

Good luck!
