Hello, I am new here and I'm afraid I'm very confused about how I can start a new topic, so I'm posting my comments/question here as a reply.

This has to do with people in the town of Koshevata, Tarashcha uyezd, Kiev gubernia.

About ten months ago, I discovered a set of photographs showing my maternal grandmother, Yenta Moiseyvna Murakhovskaya (born 1897), together with a young woman named Shifra (or Sonia) Moshkovna Luchanskaya (born 1894/95). I determined that the two were second cousins: Shifra's grandfather, El' (or Eliyahu) Manev Luchansky, born 1829, was a brother to Yenta's grandfather, Itzhak Manev Luchansky, born 1831. The photographs of Yenta and Shifra together were taken in about 1917 to 1923. Yenta left for the United States in 1923, but Shifra remained in the Soviet Union and apparently married Beni Shepetovsky. A photo probably from about 1930 shows them together with a daughter, Rivulia, probably about three years of age.

I am wondering whatever happened to Shifra Moshkovna Luchanskaya and her family. According to the 1897 census, Shifra had a sister Chava (born 1885), another sister Chana (born 1887), and a brother Itij (born 1893). Their parents were Moshko ELev Luchansky (born 1867) and Mil'ka Meyerova [maiden name unknown], born 1866. I have not found any records indicating that any of them came to the United States.

I have attached a photograph of Shifra from 1917; another with Beni and two Shepetovsky sisters, from 1925; and a third of Shifra, Beni and Rivulia, from about 1930.

The Yad Vashem records are very intriguing, but anomalous. The records for all three Shepetovskis state that they were living in Poland at the outbreak of the 2nd World War. And the Yad Vashem record for Shifra states that she was "born in 1906 to Ruvil," but Shifra was listed as 2 years old on the 1897 census, and her parents' names were Moshko Elev Luchansky and Mil'ka Meyerova [maiden name unknown].

The records look like a sufficiently closed match to the family you described.

Keep in mind that these records often contain errors : both in the original records and the Yad Vashem transcription. One cannot do anything about the former, but one can obtain the photos of the records (in almost all cases handwritten and sometimes difficult to read) and see if they are exactly what Yad Vashem digitized.

As for living in Poland -- this is a fairly common error. A similar record on relatives of mind stated Poland, albeit they never even visited Poland, they simply lived within a couple of hundred miles from the Polish border!

Beniamin could work in this city or be a soldier. I think you should look further in Azerbaijan archives. After WW2, many families remained in the places where they had been evacuated.

First I would recommend you to send a request to the Moscow Red cross or to Yadvashem, where the lists of evacuees are kept, to obtain information about the place of work of Beniamin and his wife.
