Hello,
Can You please leave the text in English in Your posts?
You wrote Shukimenko in one place and Shulimenko in other. Which variant correct?
Also about the name. Baziya shall be Basya? Or another name?

I am looking for information about my great grand grandfther, NAFTALI HERTZ GERTZ RASKIN

As we know, Naftali Herz Gertz Raskin, was born between 1945-1950 in Russia. He died around 1920-1930. He was a cantor, a schohet and a mohel.

We don’t know where he was born, and we no nothing about his parents and amost nothing about his brothers and sisters.

We believe he lived in a small village, Elnia, near Kothimsk in Belarus (Russia). He was married with Feigue Ellner, and they had, at least, 12 children:
Abraham, Aizek, Boruch (Boris), David, Rissi, Einich, Etel (Eta), Fride (Freede), Geny, Nehama, Leibe and Perl. It seems that in one moment Naftali and Feigue divorced. And maybe, he remarried Lea Vaniller.

We believe he moved to Ekaterinoslav (Russia), today Dnipro, Ukraine, around 1895 -1905.
Three of his sons (Aizek, Boruch and Avraham) and one daughter (Rissi) emigrated to Brazil between 1912-1914. We have special interest on Naftali´s offspring that stayed in Russia, or went to other places, not the ones that went to South America (as we know a lot about the Brazilian ones). So regarding Naftali´s sons Aizek, Boruch and Avraham, and daughter Rissi, we already have the information about them. We have now a close contact with the relatives of David Raskin, son of Naftali that stayed in Russia, and we know for sure he was buried in Ekaterinolav. About David Raskin, we would like to know his birth date. Maybe in the cemetery you can find it. And in our thoughts, the other brothers and sisters must be buried in Ekaterinoslav too. Any cemetery register is important.

But the research focus must be in Naftali Herz Gertz Raskin and Feiga Ellner Raskin, and a secondary focus on EINICH, ETEL (ETA), FRIDE (FREEDE), GENY (GENAH), NEHAMA, LEIB AND PERL.

We heard that Naftali had a brother, named Hersch Leib Raskin with a big family in Stolyn, Russia, and three nieces (Ester, Rhoda and Haia).

We also heard that Naftali, maybe, was a very good friend of Rebbe Levi Ytzchak Schneerson, who happened to be the Grand Ekaterinoslav Rebbe for
three decades.

In summary;

1. Naftali Hertz Raskin and his wife Feiga (Elner) Raskin kids names:
Nehama Raskina, Eta (Ethel) Raskina, Perl Raskina, Aizek Raskin (b.1869), Boruch Raskin (b.1883), David Raskin (.b around 1887), Abram Raskin (b.1876), Leib Raskin, Genih Raskin, Rissi Raskin (b.1881).
2. Naftali Hertz Raskin definitely had passport and official papers in 1870-1900, because he was traveling for business.
3. Geographical places for research in Belarus must include:
- the village of Elnya near Khotimsk (Hotimsk),
- Hotimsk town,
- Stolyn town,
- Ladas or Horodok,
- Purow
- Dnipro
4. Timeline:
1840 -1850 - Naftali Hertz Raskin was born;
1858 -1869 - Naftali Hertz Raskin married Feiga Elner;
1859 -1869 - their first child was born;
1895 -1905 - family or part of the family moved to Ekaterinoslav;
1908 - 1913 - part of the family left Russia for good;
1912 - 1922 - Feiga Elner Raskina passed away ;
January 1927 – David Raskin, son of Naftali Hertz and Feiga Raskin, passed away in Dnepropetrovsk.

5. Two Naftali Hertz sons, David Raskin and Boruch Raskin, married sisters Hanah Elner and Tzivie Elner from the village of Elnya near Khotimsk or Hotimsk, Belorussia. Both brothers were married in 1900-1908. Both brothers had kids, so there should be official birth registrations.
6. There are should be applications for passports/emigration forms from all the members of Raskin family in Russia, who left Russia in 1908-1913. Those applications contain a lot of information. We do have this forms from their entrance in Brasil.

We think it make sense to concentrate on the search for Naftali Hertz Raskin (born between 1840 and 1850) no early than 1840 and up to 1905 in Belarus. There may be records of Naftali’s passport or travel permit applications. The search should shift to Ekaterinoslav/Dnepropetrovsk/Dnipro for period of 1895-1930, as family moved to Ekaterinoslav. We are quite confident that our Raskins lived in the village of Elnya near Khotimsk or Hotimsk, Belorussia, not in the town of Elnya in Smolensk governorship/oblast/province. The relevant archives are most likely to be found in Minsk or elsewhere in Belorussia/Belarus.
Probably it would make sense to look for the last name Elner also. It was the maiden name of Feiga.
There is a probability that Feiga Elner Raskin passed away no early than 1913 and no later than 1918/1919

If you have any information, please contact me at s.raskin@genetika.com.br

Thank you!

Everything happens, but I'd presume the poster meant born 1845-1850 :P His timeline has 1840-1850.

I'd further note that
Elnya near Khotimsk or Hotimsk, Belorussia.
Elnya is likely the one in the Smolensk gubernia, and not in Belorus, and more than 200km off Hotimsk. Where did the marriage take place? If in Ekaterinoslav, then it is not an indication that Raskin's are from the same area.. but then what do we know firmly about the earlier geography?

Would you like to ask questinons in your native language (Englsh?), so that we don't have to guess what you want.

Thank you. I know that NiaB in Minsk has copies of family lists of bourgeois and merchants for 1874 for the city of Vitebsk (Посемейные списки мещан и купцов за 1874 г.), which are 2496-1-2481 through 2496-1-2550. Do you know if there is an index of these lists by surname? Is there a way to find the lists that relate to a few Jewish families in Vitebsk without searching all 69 books?

Пестунович, Пистунович (Витебск)

Actually there is a clear answer there is a surname index to the Vitebsk family lists at the NHAB, reportedly fairly complete, bit it is only available to the archive personnel, and not outside of the archive
Гоникберг (Могилев-Подольский, Ушицкий уезд, и повсюду), Прусс, Черницкий(Городок Витебской), Пальман (Витебск), Богин, Рудерман (Минск), Лапицкий (Копысь, Киев)

Don't be too optimistic about the quality of the index. I had it checked independently by three researchers on the same surnames, this produced three different sets of families!--all matching the criteria. And I suspect I did not find ALL of th relevant lists.
